Owning A Dog Can I Have A Puppy

Owning A Dog: Can I Have A Puppy?

Mummy... Daddy, Please Can I Have A Puppy?...... is a question all parents eventually get asked.
This is one of the questions that parents need to really take into careful consideration all the pros and cons of  owing a dog as it is a long term committment.

Don't be swayed by your child's persistent pleas until you are certain....(and I'm sure the pleas will be never ending)

Stop for a moment and ask yourself this question...Is your family ready for the committment of owning a pet puppy?

These are some of the responsibilities that need to be considered for the care of your new puppy.

One of the major questions is...

Who will care for our new puppy?

Families should agree beforehand who will be responsible for.....

  • feeding
  • walking
  • bathing
  • cleaning up after your pet
  • checking for ticks

Do you have space for a puppy?

Families living in apartments or townhouses will need to check with their housing rules as to whether pets are allowed.

Checking the library or Internet will help you determine the one most suitable for your family. Some breeds need more attention when it comes to grooming and exercising.

So when choosing your new puppy it's important that it also fits into your lifestyle....whether it be relaxed or active.  Do you travel away on weekends... could you take your new pet puppy with you or not?

Owning a pet is time consuming and can be expensive. It's a great idea to contact your local vet to enquire about the necessary vaccinations and costs involved in owing a new puppy before making such an important decision.

A new puppy needs a lot of attention and family members should realize that they may have to give up other activities to properly care for a pet. Does the prospect seems too daunting?  If so you may suggest waiting until your child is old enough to help care for new puppy.

If your child is older just because they say they will look after your new puppy...doesn't always mean they will.  Are you willing for the responsibility to fall back on you as you're most likely to be the one who ends up caring for your new puppy.

It is recommended the whole family meet the puppy before deciding to take it home. Think carefully before adopting your furry new family member because owning a pet is a long-term commitment.

So if you've answered Yes... to that never ending question..."Can I have a puppy?" Once you're furry friend has arrived and as pet owners dog training secrets is important to learn for owing a dog which enables you to take control to ensure you have a well behaved puppy.
